"You need to post regularly." Any SME that has thought about social media has heard this. And it's true — but it's only half the truth.
Many companies manage to keep a pace for a few weeks: posts for special dates, team photos, promotions. Then the pace drops, or it continues, but with no thread linking everything together. The result is an active profile that's hard to recognise.
Regularity without coherence confuses
Regularity is showing up often. Coherence is always showing up as the same company: with the same message, the same tone and a recognisable look. Without coherence, every post starts from scratch — and the audience never builds a clear idea of what the company does.
It's the same principle that separates an ongoing plan from one-off actions: the value lies in accumulation, and only what's consistent accumulates.
The three pillars of coherence
Message. Which two or three themes does the company want the audience to associate with its name? Every post should reinforce at least one of them.
Tone. Warmer or more corporate, more technical or simpler — what matters is choosing and sticking to it. Changing tone with every post makes the brand look improvised.
Look. Consistent colours, typography and photo style make the company recognisable even before someone reads the name.
How to keep regularity without exhausting the team
| Practice | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Monthly calendar set in advance | Removes the "what do we post today?" |
| Three or four fixed post types | Eases production and reinforces coherence |
| Batch production (weekly or monthly) | Reduces time spent and prevents gaps |
| Reusing website and blog content | Each article can generate several posts |
The ideal frequency is the one the company can keep for twelve months — not the one it can keep for two weeks.
Connecting social media to the rest of your digital presence
Social media isn't an end in itself. It's a way to keep the company present and bring people to the website, where they can understand the service and get in touch. That's why coherence must also exist across channels — and content needs a purpose to convert.
Less improvisation, more method
An SME doesn't need to be on every network or post every day. It needs to choose where its audience is, define a clear line and keep it. Regularity brings presence; coherence brings recognition. Only the two together build trust.
